Quick Facts

  • Londinium was founded by the Romans on the River Thames in the first century AD but was sacked by Boadicea in 61AD.

  • On November 5th, 1605, Guy Fawkes attempted to blow up the Palace of Westminster along with King James, during the opening of parliament.  Every November 5th throughout Britain, bonfires are lit with effigies of Fawkes on them to celebrate the foiling of the plot.

  • There are over 50 theatres in London's West End and over 100 in total in London including Shakespeare's Rose (built 1587).
